Lewisham Is Not For Sale
With May 7th local elections coming up, we asked councillor candidates to
demonstrate how serious they were about fixing the housing crisis by publicly
pledging against gentrification!
We had 3 main commitments:
If elected to acknowledge the severity of gentrification and use their powers
as councillors to force affordable housing.
Reject developments which fail to satisfy 50% affordable housing
(as per the Lewisham local plan adopted in July 2025).
Work with the Lewisham People's Assembly and other housing organisations to
achieve a 'New Vision for Development' based around democratic decision-making,
community-owned and sustainable development practises.
